What It Is
The OIR-B1-1802 is the Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form the official document that determines exactly which hurricane hardening features on your home qualify for mandatory insurance discounts under Florida law.
Up to 88% off your windstorm premium. That's not a promotion — it's the law.
Under Florida Statute §627.0629, insurance companies are legally required to offer premium discounts and deductible reductions to homeowners whose properties include verified wind-resistant construction features. Those discounts can reach up to 88% off the windstorm portion of your policy — savings that translate to hundreds or even thousands of dollars per year. The OIR-B1-1802 form is the key. Without a current, valid, inspector-certified form on file with your carrier, every one of those mandatory credits goes unclaimed.
The form is the key. Without a current, valid, inspector-certified OIR-B1-1802 on file with your carrier, you are
leaving every one of those mandatory credits unclaimed and your insurer is not required to tell you.

The Urgency
This is not a routine paperwork update. The OIR-B1-1802 has been updated effective
April 1, 2026. All inspections on or after that date must use the new version. The new
form reflects a 2024 Residential Wind-Loss Mitigation Study, updating the discount
tables and qualifying criteria to reflect current building science and real-world hurricane
performance data.

New Form
Rev. 04/26 — Effective April 1, 2026
Comprehensive documentation required for every credit claimed
High-resolution photos mandatory for all mitigation features
Increased standardization same rules across all carriers
Permits & product approvals required as proof of record
What's New in the Rev. 04/26 Form
Strict documentation required. Inspectors must now include specific permits, product approvals, and high-resolution,
clear photos of all mitigation features for every credit claimed.
Heavy emphasis on "black-and-white" evidence. If a feature cannot be documented through a permit or clear visual
inspection, it will not receive credit under the new form.
At least one proof document per attribute. Each credit attribute requires at least one photograph or supporting
document to validate the claim — no exceptions.
Increased standardization. The new form introduces consistent credit interpretation across all insurance carriers,
reducing the variation that previously allowed some carriers to deny credits others approved.
Updated discount tables. Qualifying criteria reflect the 2024 Residential Wind-Loss Mitigation Study — some features
may qualify for higher credits; others are evaluated under a more stringent standard.
What This Means for You
The OIR-B1-1802 is valid for up to five years, provided no material changes are made to the structure or inaccuracies are found on the form. That means if your inspection was completed in 2021 or earlier, it has already expired or will expire before the next hurricane season ends.
Under the new Rev. 04/26 requirements, your inspector must now provide photo documentation for every single credit attribute from scratch.
If you don't have permits, product approvals, or photos readily available, credits you've been collecting for years could be reduced or eliminated. The homeowners who act now — before hurricane season — are the ones who lock in the maximum credits under the new rules.

Three questions every Pinellas homeowner must answer right now:
When was my last wind mitigation inspection?
Your OIR-B1-1802 has a 5-year expiration. If it was completed in 2021 or earlier, you're either expired or expiring this season.
If 2021 or earlier → It's expired.
Does my current form reflect every hardening upgrade I've made since then?
New roof? Upgraded shutters? Reinforced garage door? Improvements made after your last inspection are invisible to your insurer — and uncredited.
If 2021 or earlier → It's expired.
Am I missing credits I qualify for but never claimed?
Many Pinellas homeowners have qualifying features that were never properly documented. Under the old form, inspectors often missed them. The new form demands proof.
If 2021 or earlier → It's expired.
